Engaging Muslim Youth: A Study in the London Borough of Barnet

Research Team: Louise Ryan, Eleonore Kofman, Pauline Aaron

Barnet’s Muslim Youth Steering Group commissioned the research to find out more about the lives, beliefs, and aspirations of Barnet’s Muslim communities, by gaining a deeper insight into their experiences and attitudes, expectations of young people in the borough, their perceptions of extremism and the communities’ sense of belonging.

The research was part of a much wider programme entitled ‘Building Confidence & Capacity Among Young Muslims’ and to ensure the cultural sensitivity of the research, researchers were recruited from the partner community groups. The sample of young people in this study was very varied in terms of ethnicity and place of birth.
