Muslim Women: Communities, Identities and Aspirations

Research Team: Dr Louise Ryan, Dr Ludovica Banfi, Prof Eleonore Kofman (with Clare Choak)

This project built on earlier research with young people and the ongoing work across the partnership with Muslim families in Barnet. It examined the concerns, experiences and aspirations of Muslim women, specifically mothers, exploring women’s active involvement within communities, and identifing what barriers may inhibit their involvement and questions what can be done to encourage greater levels of civic participation.  Much consideration was also given to the role that Muslim mothers play in building communities that are resilient to violent extremism.
